Fintegrity
A self-owned course platform for Curaçao: 55 courses, card checkout and verifiable certificates, with live payments switched on 11 weeks after the build began

The Situation
Fintegrity is a professional-training business in Curaçao. It wanted to sell self-paced courses to working professionals in banking, finance, cybersecurity, healthcare, construction and hospitality, and give every graduate a certificate they could share. Hosted course platforms such as Teachable and Kajabi charge monthly fees, and the business never owns the platform. Fintegrity wanted its own: a marketing site, course catalog, card checkout, a learning area, a final quiz, automatic certificates and a simple admin panel. Algoace started with the brand and design, then built the whole product.
The Constraint
The original brief assumed Stripe for payments. Stripe does not support businesses based in Curaçao. The platform needed a provider that could take card payments for a Curaçao business and handle sales tax for buyers abroad. Costs had to stay small, because “no monthly platform fees” was the whole point. Then, mid-build, the content format changed. Fintegrity writes its courses in Articulate Rise as SCORM packages (a standard e-learning file format). The platform had to play them and track progress inside them.
What we did
A Merchant of Record instead of Stripe. We chose Paddle, which sells on Fintegrity’s behalf, takes the card payment and handles sales tax. Checkout opens over the course page. Access is granted only when Paddle’s signed payment confirmation reaches our server, and a repeated confirmation never creates a second order. When an admin changes a price, Paddle is updated automatically.
An open-source SCORM player, not a SCORM subscription. Hosted SCORM services charge monthly fees, which broke the no-fees rule. We used the open-source scorm-again library and built the rest. Admins upload packages of up to 200 MB. Progress saves every 30 seconds, and students resume where they stopped. Finishing the package completes the lesson.
Rules that keep half-built courses away from students. A course can’t be published until every section has a lesson and every lesson has content. The final quiz is optional. When a course has one, it unlocks only after every lesson is done. The pass mark defaults to 70%, and retakes are unlimited.
Certificates anyone can check. Passing the quiz, or finishing a course without one, creates a PDF certificate in the background and emails it. Each certificate has a unique serial and a public page where an employer can confirm it.
Resend instead of Amazon’s email service. Amazon’s service needs a manual approval before it emails real people, and that approval had been unreliable on past projects. Resend only needs the domain verified.

The trade-off
The platform runs on one small cloud server and one small database in a single location. A busy production site would use several servers with automatic failover. Before launch, traffic is tiny, and the bigger setup would cost several times more each month for capacity nobody uses. The catch: if that server has a problem, most of the site stops working until it recovers. We accepted that because the whole setup is written as code (Terraform) and a larger hosting option is already defined. Moving up is a planned step, not a rebuild.

What we would do differently
We would settle the content format on day one. We built the course editor around text lessons. SCORM arrived in August, after the editor was finished, and needed its own plan and build. One kickoff question, “what tool do you write your courses in?”, would have folded it into the first design and saved a round of rework.
